Where can I skate?
In Sweden, there are several associations, which provides skating activities.
Friluftsfrämjandet, friluftsfrämjandet.se
Svenska Skridskoförbundet, skridsko.se
You can also practice on some 400 m courses around the country. In Stockholm there is Östermalms Idrottsplats.
Opening hours for Östermalms Idrottsplats:
Monday, Friday, Sunday 9-16, 17-23
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9-16, 19-23
Saturday 9-16, 17-21
Training
Below follows 8 recommended points of advice to follow if preparing for Vikingarännet
1. Before and during the season it’s important to train your back- and thigh muscles.
2. If you have the opportunity, skate on inlines a couple of months before the season starts.
3. Use artificial ice to get going with the skating.
4. Train balance and work on your skating technique.
5. Take part in arranged skating tours.
6. Find cleared courses to train on.
7. Practice to skate with your body bent forward. This will help your back during the race.
8. Last week before the race, eat lots of carbohydrates.
